Anyone else watch this show? Finally finished it a week or so ago, and while I had issues with the ending, it's honestly one of the best series I've ever seen.
I think it's supposed to be satire of the Murdoch family, but I think it actually does a decent job of poking fun, and also pointing out the reality, of the rich "upper class" and politicians regardless of what side you're on.
But frankly I don't really care about that, because while whether or not it takes "sides" and/or is or isn't woke, are both vague and highly debatable, just never really entered my mind much while watching it. And for the record I didn't think it was woke, other than a few throwaway lines, and actually you can say it's satirizing fake wokeness as much as anything.
The writing is superb. The acting is fantastic. The music is wonderful. It's supposed to be terrible people making terrible choices, and for the most part it is, but there are often glimpses of humanity in the characters, so we can relate to them in some ways and come to like many of them. There is a perfect amount of humor IMO, where it toes the line of going "over the top" but never crosses it.
The ending is a bit divisive, some think it's perfect and others think it's terrible. I didn't love it, but I understand it and it didn't diminish my overall anjoyment of the show.
This is instantly in my top 5 series ever, maybe high on that list (I don't think anything will overtake The Wire). It's also one of those that "spoils" other shows because of it's quality. I tried starting a few series after this one and quit every one because they paled so badly in comparison. It's one I will definitely watch multiple times.
So I highly recommend it, 10/10.
